Free (Sub) Domain Names with DNS by freedns.afraid.org

You are enthusiastic about creating a good website. You have found the most ideal free web hosting service. However, it is very hard to find free domain name services that are really free, that is, with no forced backlinks, banners, or ads.

I have just found it for you! freedns.afraid.org is a free DNS service which lets you use other people’s domain names, create a subdomain from it, and use it for your own. This website uses the wonderful service itself.

For example, the domain us.to is registered in freedns.afraid.org as a public domain. That means everyone can have a subdomain which looks like ???.us.to. Of course, you do not really own the subdomain, because if the website closes or the rightful owner of the domain us.to does not pay for his/her domain, you will lose it. This is not going to happen tomorrow, because the owner clearly enjoyed profit from it.

Being a free registered user you can have up to 5 DNS records. For most uses you only need 1 or 2 NS records. By becoming a premium user, you can have more records (don’t know how many), and you are obliged to pay US$ 5 per month. There are some other advantages too which you may want to check out.

The site states that it has more than 500 premium user. So it should be about 500 x US$ 5 = US$ 2500 a month. A nice amount of money, you could say, considering the upkeep cost the owner must have to pay: only server maintenance and paying his/her own domain name.

That’s it, I hope you enjoyed the service just like myself. This writing is… an expression of gratitude for the wonderful service; it is not an advertisement!
